  • Tribune reporter Ed Semmler, known for his humor and community focus — who worked at the paper from 1999 to 2025 — died Jan. 2. His passing marks the loss of a dedicated local journalist.  South Bend Tribune

FINANCE NEWS

  • Lottery players in South Bend learned Wednesday's Powerball drawing had a $105 million jackpot with a $47.4 million cash option. Tickets cost $2 (add $1 for Power Play and another $1 for Double Play) and Monday's winning numbers were 4, 18, 24, 51, 56 with the Powerball 14.  South Bend Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Bend officials are working 24+ hours to patch potholes caused by thaw cycles as warming weather damages roads. Crews use hot asphalt for repairs and urge residents to report issues on the 311 website.  WSBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nick Eddy, a Notre Dame running back who helped win the 1966 national title, died Jan. 7 at age 81, the school announced. He later worked as a volunteer coach and teacher and is survived by his wife of 59 years, four children and nine grandchildren.  South Bend Tribune
