- ➤ Nick Eddy, a Notre Dame running back who helped win the 1966 national title, died Jan. 7 at age 81, the school announced. He later worked as a volunteer coach and teacher and is survived by his wife of 59 years, four children and nine grandchildren. South Bend Tribune
