- ➤ Longtime local pastor Steve Sumrall, founder of Feeding The Nations, died Tuesday after battling a rare lung disease. A celebration of life will be held Monday at Christ Chapel Church. WSBT

- ➤ Tippecanoe Place, a longtime local restaurant established in 1980, permanently closed on Monday after serving its final meals on New Year's Eve. Owner Kevin Jakel said the historic mansion from the 1880s will live on in a new form — maintenance challenges led to its shutdown. ABC 57
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Raclin Murphy Encore Center at the Morris Performing Arts Center will host several community events this weekend (including a basketweaving demonstration by Potawatomi Nation members from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.) and a ribbon cutting is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6 to mark the 20,000 sqft expansion. - ➤ The 51st annual Valley RV & Camping show is underway at the Century Center — featuring travel trailers, fifth-wheels and Class B motorhomes, with special financing offers and tickets at $12 for adults as the event runs until Sunday, Jan. 11. WSBT

- ➤ The University of Notre Dame in South Bend was ranked No. 3 in a national survey of beautiful college campuses released on Jan. 8 at 11:10 a.m. ET — the campus features landmarks like the Basilica of the Sacred Heart that highlight its historic charm. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ South Bend third graders improved reading scores by 17% since 2021 after partnering with Tutor-ND, South Bend Schools + We Make Indiana. Officials plan to recruit 50 tutors through June to support after-school learning as nearly 30% of students did not pass the test. WSBT
- ➤ Legislation filed Thursday would replace the elected school board with a seven-member body appointed by the Secretary of Education starting July 1, with current trustees serving as advisors.
