CULTURE NEWS

  • Dr. Bernard J. Dolezal, a South Bend doctor, delivered two sets of triplets in 1962 in just 5 ½ years, shattering obstetrical odds as recorded in preserved newspaper excerpts at the History Museum.  South Bend Tribune
  • Motels4Now and local artists partnered to launch FUN (For Us Now) to support local adults experiencing homelessness through an art show. The event took place Saturday, Jan. 10 at Area Hall Art House from 5 to 10 p.m. where visitors donated art supplies and enjoyed food, drink and a DJ.  WSBT
  • Lovina Eicher shared her Amish Kitchen column this morning, describing her family's Old Christmas celebration with pork butchering, birthday festivities, and a church visit. She also offered an overnight cookie recipe to warm hearts locally.  South Bend Tribune

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the Midwest dropped slightly last week, averaging $2.58 per gallon of regular fuel on Monday compared to $2.61 the week before. The region’s price was about 7.5% lower than the national average, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.  South Bend Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame basketball lost 76—61 to Clemson in their home league opener on Saturday, Jan. 10. Coach Micah Shrewsberry said the absence of star Markus Burton highlighted the need for better discipline as the team looks to improve in upcoming games.  South Bend Tribune
  • Today, Five Iron Golf in South Bend offers indoor golf simulation — with lessons, club fittings, and weekday happy hour deals from 3-6 p.m. — and winter leagues set to start Feb. 9, giving locals a fun way to practice their swing when the weather is cold.  South Bend Tribune
  • Twelve South Bend area girls wrestlers advanced to the IHSAA State Finals on Friday at the Corveta Coliseum in Indianapolis; regional champions from NorthWood (Onica Gradeless) and Jimtown (Sophia Carper) earned their spots with fast wins at Saturday’s meet.  South Bend Tribune
