  • The 40th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration took place Monday, Jan. 19 at Century Center, featuring a community service recognition breakfast and a march led by local community leaders. The event honored diverse local contributions & reinforced community unity.  South Bend Tribune
  • Corby's Irish Pub hosted a lively watch party Monday night as Hoosier fans gathered to watch the national title football game between IU and Miami, opening its doors at 6 p.m. + extra tables were set out to welcome the crowd.  WSBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Tribune invites local readers to vote for Student of the Week from nominees at Mishawaka High, NorthWood, Northridge, and LaVille with voting open until noon Thursday, Jan. 22 — results will appear online Friday and in the print edition Monday.  South Bend Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michiana Access TV announced Tuesday that on-air programming from WNIT (PBS Michiana) will cease Saturday, Jan. 31, discontinuing live broadcasts and online streaming of South Bend City Council, Mishawaka City Council, and St. Joseph County government meetings.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame basketball (10–8, 1–4 ACC) will play North Carolina (14–4) at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Irish are on an ACC road swing and will try to end their long stretch of home losses against the Tar Heels.  South Bend Tribune
  • Potawatomi Zoo shared a video Monday showing Bobby the Bison tearing apart a box before the national championship game (7:30 p.m.) when the Hoosiers faced Miami.  WSBT
