  • On Jan. 29, 1941, the South Bend Homing Pigeon Club offered 2,200 trained pigeons to the Army for its national defense program in a letter from club secretary Edward F. Voorde to Congressman Robert A. Grant.  South Bend Tribune

  • A winter storm hit South Bend Saturday, Jan. 24, leaving icy roads, snow-covered trees and blocked sidewalks + photos show residents clearing driveways and shovelling streets downtown.  South Bend Tribune
  • South Bend International Airport had several flight delays and cancellations Saturday due to a severe winter storm that affected flights arriving from Detroit and Chicago O'Hare and departing for Charlotte and Dallas-Fort Worth; travelers were advised to check with airlines.  WSBT

  • Bremen varsity girls and boys teams swept the Bi-County Tournament on Saturday, with the girls winning 52-20 and Emma Kincaid reaching 1,001 career points while the boys earned a 58-26 win—their first title since 2008—boosting the Lions to a 20-1 record.  South Bend Tribune
