  • Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana will host ShamROCK THE HOUSE—a St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser at Foley’s at Notre Dame on Friday, March 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. that will feature live entertainment, an open bar and appetizers and offer raffle tickets for a chance to kick a field goal at the stadium.  WNDU

  • LaSalle Grill on W. Colfax Avenue closed today after nearly 35 years in service; founder Mark McDonnell handed management to his daughter Marnocha in 2021, and its closure comes a month after Tippecanoe Place shut its doors.  WNDU
  • The Amish Pretzel Company is growing by offering fresh-baked pretzels that you can heat at home. Its products are available at local restaurants, breweries — and Martin’s Super Markets as the business expands.  WNDU
  • A local wine bar in South Bend has released Hoosier Nouveau as a tribute to the Hoosiers' championship, using a quick carbonic maceration method on locally grown grapes. The wine is available at Ironhand Wine Bar for fans to enjoy.  WNDU

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 68-voice Concordia Choir performs at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Mar. 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Fourth St. in Mishawaka. The diverse set list spans from baroque to modern choral works (tickets are $40 with free entry for students).  South Bend Tribune

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Indiana Michigan Power will file later this year to lower base electric rates based on increased revenue from large customers including data centers. A summer filing will detail added protections against future rate increases and investments for improved reliability.  WSBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Holy Cross College announced a sustainable living plan for seniors that will add new independent living units with 14 townhomes and 31 apartments located near streets to build community connections. The project meets the growing demand for quality housing.  WSBT
  • Local schools are preparing students for the upcoming IREAD literacy assessment as educators use last year’s second grade data to support third graders, with testing starting Monday, March 2 and a summer window running from May 11 to June 26.  WSBT

  • A local family vacationing in Puerto Vallarta experienced chaos over the weekend when a cartel leader was killed — some members flew home Tuesday while others depart today.  WSBT

  • Yesterday, during a game against No. 1 Duke, Notre Dame basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry slipped and injured his left Achilles — he returned to the bench with a walking boot and assistance from a teammate.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame women's basketball is building momentum with three straight wins and strong NCAA Tournament projections from ESPN, CBS and NCAA. The Irish will host Syracuse tomorrow at 7 p.m. in a key game before the ACC Tournament.  South Bend Tribune
