CULTURE NEWS

  • Kaelyn McClements of Adams High School (voted by Tribune readers) was named Student of the Week for Feb. 23 for her school spirit and leadership; nominees also included students from Mishawaka High and new nominations will be accepted next week.  South Bend Tribune
  • Over 330 students competed on Feb. 21 at John J. Young Middle School and the top finalists — including several from South Bend — will advance to the state National History Day contest on April 18 at Marian University. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bald eagles at St. Patrick's County Park laid their third egg on Friday evening, though only two remain because one cracked last week. Notre Dame researchers track the nest through a 24-hour live stream to keep locals informed.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colfax Avenue between Frances and Eddy will be closed Sunday for water main repairs – traffic is expected to resume by Wednesday if weather permits. The South Bend Clinic stays open through its west side entrance.  WSBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame women's basketball beat Louisville on Sunday to become a five seed in the ACC Tournament. The team will play the winner of Miami versus Stanford at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday in Duluth, Georgia.  South Bend Tribune
  • Voting is open now for the South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week poll covering Feb. 23–28, with unlimited votes accepted until Thursday, March 5 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
