COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local radio station B100 in Mishawaka launched its 29th Annual St. Jude Radiothon on Thursday and will continue the event on Friday, March 14. The radiothon runs daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in helping families avoid medical bills.  ABC 57

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A two-alarm fire damaged four floors at The Mill Phase 2 in Ironworks Plaza in Mishawaka on March 12, 2025—60 under-construction apartments suffered extensive damage as fire crews activated the sprinklers and began investigating the blaze.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend will host its first Chinese lantern festival, Zoo Luminate, from March 19 to May 25—showcasing hundreds of LED-lit exhibits, live music and interactive displays. Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for children with discounts for zoo members, and the event could bring 60,000 extra visitors to the zoo.  South Bend Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced on social media Thursday morning that he will not run in Michigan's state races for governor or Senate—his decision keeps open the possibility for a presidential run in 2028.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame Women's Basketball Head Coach Niele Ivey was named a semifinalist on Thursday for the Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year Award—she guided the team to its third consecutive season with at least 25 wins.  ABC 57
  • Bethel men’s basketball made history by hosting the first two rounds of the NAIA tournament this weekend— the team, finishing a 22 to 8 season and earning a No. 4 seed, will face No. 13 Peru State at 4:30 p.m. Friday on their home court.  South Bend Tribune
  • Jimtown High School coach Tyler Leighton, who once played as a star guard, led his team to a sectional win—the first in 21 years—and now the Jimmies get ready to play Westview on Saturday in the Class 2A regional tournament. His second season has turned the team around after many tough years.  South Bend Tribune
  • South Bend Cubs started registration for the 2025 Meijer Baseball Academy camps for kids aged 7 to 13 (June 18-20 and Aug. 6-8 sessions) so players can learn hitting, pitching, fielding, catching, and base running this summer. Campers will get a t-shirt, hat, lunch, game tickets, and a chance for pre-game field recognition while the fee is $150 before May 26 and $175 thereafter.  ABC 57
