EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, Feb 11, the New Prairie Middle School wrestling team received CPR and AED training at New Prairie High School — taught by biomedical science teacher Tonya Aerts and teacher Jenn Smith — to build essential emergency skills. The session helped the students learn techniques to safely respond during an incident. South Bend Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The St. Joseph County Parks Department is developing a new county park on Anderson Road in Granger and is seeking input on park services and amenities. A public open house will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at Discovery Middle School (10050 Brummitt Road) with additional sessions scheduled for April 24 and May 29 to gather ideas for the 115.5-acre property. - ➤ Drivers in South Bend will face detours as construction on Ewing Avenue begins Monday—closing the street from Gertrude Street to Kemble Avenue until mid-June—and the first phase will add new curbs, sidewalks, raised intersections and repaving with a second phase scheduled to run until the end of July. - ➤ Clay Fire Chief Matthew Dhoore said his certification for the Executive Fire Officer program is in limbo after FEMA canceled the training course—training that required travel to the Emmitsburg campus—leaving him without a clear path for recertification.
