EDUCATION NEWS

  • Holy Cross College received a $1 million gift from the Midwest Province of Brothers of Holy Cross on March 19th to support its vice president for mission and ministry and pay for needed building projects. The college also renamed South Hall to Legacy Hall to honor the donation.  WSBT
  • Business leaders and educators in South Bend are pushing for a Career and Technical Education hub that would let high school students start training in trades and other in-demand careers. South Bend Schools considered using an old Studebaker factory or Coquillard Elementary but did not get board approval while local employers and chamber leaders urged action — stressing that filling local worker shortages is critical.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Bend attorney Michael Misch responded in court to disciplinary charges filed by the Indiana Supreme Court alleging he helped former probate judge Jason Cichowicz conceal a $100,000 donation for renovations at the Juvenile Justice Center. His lawyer said in a filing — the facts do not show any breach of professional conduct — that Misch did not violate legal ethics rules.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • South Bend high schools are making history as both Riley and Saint Joseph advance to IHSAA boys basketball semi-state rounds on Saturday — Riley will play at Elkhart’s North Side Gymnasium — and Saint Joseph will compete in Logansport after winning their regional championships last week.  South Bend Tribune
  • Jordan Faison is back to playing both football and lacrosse this spring after missing the first two lacrosse games, and coach Marcus Freeman said the teams are working together to help him spend more time in football. He missed games last season because of a sprained right ankle but is set to get extra football practice this spring—keeping him ready to play both sports.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame football resumed spring practice yesterday morning after an extended season as head coach Marcus Freeman said he felt ready to focus on the 2025 season. Players worked at the indoor turf facility as they prepared for the Blue-Gold game on April 12.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame women's basketball players Hannah Hidalgo, Olivia Miles and Sonia Citron earned national honors on Wednesday as Hidalgo was named to the AP first team, Miles to the AP second team and Citron received an honorable mention. The Irish will host Stephen F. Austin Friday at 2 p.m. in the NCAA Tournament first round (their team stands 26-5) in South Bend.  South Bend Tribune
  • Local casinos and sports betting rooms are filling up as fans place wagers on college hoops during March Madness, and officials at Four Winds Casino remind patrons to bet responsibly—staff are trained to detect signs of gambling addiction. Officials also note that the Indiana Gaming Commission offers resources and voluntary exclusion programs—sports wagering taxes increased nearly 8% last year as Americans are expected to wager over three million dollars this March.  WSBT
