COMMUNITY NEWS

  • South Bend-area families have many Easter events ahead. Church of the Rock in Elkhart hosts a Passion Play at 7 p.m. today while Trinity Lutheran in St. Joseph holds an Easter Egg Hunt from 5 to 7 p.m.; additional egg hunts and train rides continue through early April.  South Bend Tribune
  • Woodie's Supermarket in Bremen has begun a program to collect spare change for local charities, already raising $100 (for Grace Food Pantry) in March. The initiative will donate funds to a different charity each month based on community suggestions on Facebook.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ellen Jovin returns with her Grammar Table in Three Oaks on March 23 when she will host a pre-screening session at Vickers Theatre (6 N. Elm St.) at 6 p.m. before her husband shows the docu-comedy Rebel with a Clause at 7 p.m., followed by a Q&A and book signing.  South Bend Tribune
  • Potawatomi Zoo is hosting its last Winter Days weekend with open hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday — the zoo will open its new season on Saturday, March 28 at 10 a.m.  WSBT

  • The Indiana State Board of Accounts released its audit report on South Bend Community School Corp covering July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023 on March 19 — the local Tribune is reviewing the findings and has requested an interview with SBCSC for further comment.  South Bend Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Indiana DNR launched a free permit last Thursday that lets local fishers harvest invasive carp 24/7, including silver, grass, and black carp. Fisher requests must include specific dates, locations, and gear before any harvest begins.  WSBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman honored late coach Lou Holtz on Monday, March 18 at a memorial service attended by former players + said Holtz’s advice guided him through tough losses. He added the team will start its season on Sept. 6 against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field.  South Bend Tribune
  • Men’s March Madness round-of-64 games happened Thursday — Ohio State faced TCU at 12:15 p.m. on CBS while Duke played Siena at 2:50 p.m. — with other games airing on TNT and CBS. WSBT22 skipped its local news updates at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. that day.  WSBT
  • Triton High School seniors Landon Patrick and Gage Riffle led their team to a 53-51 win on March 14 — a win that sends them to the IHSAA semi-state — and they will face Tri-County tomorrow at the Marian Crawley Center at Lafayette Jefferson High School.  South Bend Tribune
