- ➤ Black Lives Matter South Bend and former Councilman Henry David Jr. are urging athletic events with Penn High School be paused until the school meets NAACP demands after a student livestream used offensive language. The boycott targets the institution, not the student athletes. WSBT
- ➤ We Make Indiana invites community members to join a Palm Sunday walk starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 29 at Howard Park that will wind through downtown and finish with refreshments at 3:15 p.m. The event promotes a politics of compassion and care. South Bend Tribune
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ South Bend Symphony Orchestra will perform Dvorak's Cello Concerto with cellist Joshua Roman on Mar. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Morris Performing Arts Center (211 N. Michigan St.), and the program features works by Britten and Clyne. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ The Sisters of the Holy Cross will hold a Lenten service on March 27 at 7 p.m. at Church of Our Lady of Loretto. The event features 'The Passion According to Saint John' by Steven C. Warner with 35 choir members, 20 alumni and 9 instrumentalists inviting all to sing. South Bend Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Folds of Honor Indiana is accepting scholarship applications for the 2026 academic year for spouses and children of fallen or disabled military personnel and first responders, and applications will remain open until March 31. Funds may cover tuition, tutoring, college, and post-graduate studies. South Bend Tribune
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Portage Township is sponsoring Mulch Madness to cover leaded soil in the Near Northwest Neighborhood. Volunteers will spread mulch Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at homes (near Portage Ave, Lawndale Ave and Van Buren St) and get food provided by the township. South Bend Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City resumed fall leaf pick-up in Zone Seven yesterday as crews restarted the service after months of weather delays, and they will finish collecting leaves by the end of April with other zones scheduled from April 1 to April 23. ABC 57
- ➤ Starting today, Pierce Road from US-31 to Miami Highway will be closed during business hours as tree removal crews work; the road reopens after 5 p.m. each evening — a detour is posted along Miami Highway, New Road and State Road 931 with work set to finish March 31. WSBT
