Good morning, South Bend. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 26th of March.

CRIME NEWS

  • Mishawaka police responded at 9:50 p.m. on Monday to a disturbance on Elder Street where battalion fire chief Christopher Haggerty allegedly hit a victim with a paper towel holder and raised a cutting board as if to hit them. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today, gas prices in our area went up by 30 cents a gallon after stations switched from a winter blend to a summer blend that costs more to produce. Experts predict the average price of about $3.25 a gallon will stay steady for now.  WSBT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • According to Indiana DNR biologist Ben Dickinson, steelhead are running strong in the St. Joseph River after a week that ended March 19 when 957 fish were counted — bass and panfish will move into shallow waters inland in April as the sun warms them. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of South Bend announced lane restrictions and closures will begin at the intersection of Ireland Road and Ironwood Drive tomorrow as part of a six-phase project covering pavement reconstruction, curb realignment and new traffic signals. Phase 1 will limit southbound traffic on Ironwood to one through lane and one left-turn lane while keeping businesses accessible — the work is expected to finish in early July.  ABC 57
  • South Bend Mayor James Mueller delivered his state of the city address at IUSB in Northside Hall on March 25th; doors opened at 5 p.m. (he began speaking at 6 p.m.).  WSBT
