  • Cultivate Food Rescue is stepping up to help TSA agents at the South Bend airport by supplying frozen meals after workers lost pay during the government shutdown. The group delivered 60 meals today (with capacity to provide more as needed) and will continue to support airport staff as demand grows.  WSBT
  • After severe weather, the BBB warns homeowners not to hire storm chasers who use high-pressure tactics for quick repairs.   • Sisters recalling the Palm Sunday tornado outbreak of 1965 remember 82 people died and nearly 700 were injured, and they recall their mother rushing everyone to the basement as dark clouds loomed (a memory they share to honor the local past).  WSBT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Indiana's state gas tax will increase on Apr. 1, raising the tax at the pump to about 72 cents per gallon and impacting fuel costs for South Bend families. The added funds will go toward local roads, bridges, and infrastructure projects.  WSBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Civil Rights Heritage Center at IUSB is hiring a current student to lead tours and handle archival work for 8 to 12 hours a week at $15 per hour. The job will run (Mon, Wed, Fri 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tues, Thurs 3 to 7 p.m.) and focuses on sharing local civil rights history.  South Bend Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame junior Hannah Hidalgo faces Vanderbilt's sophomore Mikayla Blakes today at 2:30 p.m. ET for the Sweet 16 game at Dickies Arena; the players, who met twice before in high school and AAU, are set for a high-scoring showdown.  South Bend Tribune
  • Robb Berger, former Marian boys basketball coach, admitted on March 26 that he made a mistake by allowing a non-rostered player into practice before the regional game, which led to his firing and an ongoing battery investigation; he expressed regret but highlighted his long successful tenure with the team.  South Bend Tribune
