COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Palm Sunday procession started at Howard Park downtown, where participants from various faiths carried palm branches & sang to call for feeding the hungry, healing the sick and welcoming the stranger. Organized by We Make Indiana and Zion Community Church, it was the first such event in South Bend.  ABC 57
  • South Bend and nearby areas host events from today through April 5. Highlights include a film discussion at the library, a music festival on March 31 at Morris Performing Arts Center, and an Easter train ride on April 4 at the Hoosier Valley Museum, with art and concerts also scheduled.  South Bend Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • South Bend Venues Parks and Arts hosted an Adult Recess event at the Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Center tonight. Attendees (21+) enjoyed food, games, adult beverages, and an Easter egg hunt with treats and gift cards from local businesses.  ABC 57

ECONOMY NEWS

  • GasBuddy says regular gas in South Bend is near $4 a gallon today with an average increase of $1.31 over the past month. Expert Patrick De Haan attributed the jump mostly to Middle East tensions and seasonal demand while recent oil talks may ease prices in coming days.  ABC 57

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local schools are gearing up for prom and graduation season as high school ceremonies are set from mid-May to early June while college commencements are scheduled from May 6 to May 17 (including Notre Dame on May 15-17 and Indiana University South Bend on May 10).  South Bend Tribune
  • Community leaders, partners + educators celebrated the Tackle Attendance Initiative for South Bend as Notre Dame football star Leonard Moore and Team Excel honored the top ten students from Edison and Clay while the program aims to expand to four more schools next year.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of South Bend and REAL Services are presenting an age-friendly plan tonight at Portage Commons Senior Enrichment Center to improve community livability for aging residents. The initiative, one of only four in Indiana, will address eight livability domains while awaiting funding and public feedback.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • UConn defeated Notre Dame 70-52 on Sunday at Dickies Arena to end the Irish season at 25-11. Notre Dame briefly led before UConn's depth secured the win and advanced them to the Final Four.  South Bend Tribune
  • Triton's Jason Groves was named Tribune Coach of the Year after leading his boys basketball team to a Class 1-A state runner-up finish in Indianapolis. He credited his players' hard work and dedication for the season's success.  South Bend Tribune
  • Aneyas Williams has chosen to remain at Notre Dame because he values the culture and relationships, and he is set to see an expanded role with Price and Love leaving. Recovering from elbow surgery, Williams is expected to be fully ready by fall (his doctor confirmed a clear timeline).  ABC 57
