ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Plymouth woman was injured when severe storms destroyed her trailer on Sunday—neighbors reported she was trapped under debris for about 45 minutes before being taken to a hospital and her condition remains unknown.  WSBT

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday, St. Joseph County Police arrested 82-year-old James Belkiewitz—charged with Felony Failure to Remit Taxes—in connection with a 2022 massage parlor investigation linked to alleged human trafficking and tax fraud.  ABC 57

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 250 students from Washington, Adams and Riley High Schools performed at the 2nd annual South Bend High School Music Fest at Morris Performing Arts Center Monday night. Organizers said the event gave the students a chance to show off their skills and discuss future music studies with local colleges.  WSBT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A strong storm swept South Bend on Sunday afternoon and left many without power as trees and power lines fell. Indiana Michigan Power reported 60,000 outages on Sunday night while NIPSCO’s numbers dropped to 15,700 by Monday morning—storm damage surveys began on March 31 to check for any tornado effects.  South Bend Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Bend Police bought a $40,000 camera from LiveView on Sept. 26, 2024 — the 22-foot unit zooms in on license plates and body movement in parking lots and neighborhoods — to help lower crimes. The department said larcenies and car thefts dropped from Feb. 2024 to Feb. 2025 and will check the unit’s performance before deciding whether to renew the contract later this year.  South Bend Tribune
  • St. Joseph County officials said damage reporting is active for storm damage and residents can submit reports via IN211.org or by phone—service is available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  ABC 57

HEALTH NEWS

  • Beacon Health System hospitals in South Bend ended visitor restrictions and made mask wearing optional on March 31 as respiratory illnesses decreased, a hospital spokesperson said. The system will continue to supply masks + encourage visitors to wear them when requested by patients or staff.  South Bend Tribune
  • St. Joseph County has seen 356 Lyme disease cases since 2017 — with 47% of collected ticks testing positive — and its health department urges residents to complete an online survey as tick season begins so they can protect themselves and their pets.  South Bend Tribune
