- ➤ The Philanthropy Committee of IU South Bend will host its annual benefit dinner on April 9 at the University Grill in the Administration Building to support Global Survivors for Peace Inc. – a local non-profit that helps survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda; the dinner runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and accepts reservations for 200 attendees until April 5 with tickets costing between $20 and $25. - ➤ The Food Bank of Northern Indiana announced its April Mobile Food Distributions that will offer free pre-boxed food items through drive-thru and self-loading sites for residents across several counties. - ➤ The South Bend Police Department is asking the public’s help to find 46-year-old Janice Koch—who was last seen Tuesday in the 100 block of Concord Avenue near Washington High School and is described as 5'7" tall, 170 pounds, with naturally black hair now dyed blonde and wearing a blue striped shirt, black sweatpants, and blue sneakers. - ➤ The southbound lane of Main Street between Sample and Garst streets is closed today for a water service line disconnection—drivers must detour east on Sample then south on Michigan to Indiana Street; the lane will reopen April 7. ABC 57
- ➤ After Sunday's severe storms and two confirmed tornadoes left thousands without power in Michiana, Indiana Michigan Power had expected to restore service by 11 p.m. Wednesday while MEC reported 1,350 outages (mostly in Jefferson Township) and St. Joseph County saw 3,977 outages (its highest count) earlier on Wednesday. - ➤ A Rosie Place for Children in South Bend partnered with Starlight Children's Foundation to bring portable Nintendo Switch consoles—loaded with 26 popular games—to help sick children feel more at ease during hospital stays.
