ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Economists say that rising prices will impact nearly all items within a month or two and will hit local manufacturers hard. Bill Schalliol—Director of Economic Development—said products used in the GM battery plant and other businesses will face slowdowns and short-term layoffs before things level out. WSBT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The southbound lane on South Main Street between Sample and Garst has been closed for water service line disconnect work since Thursday, April 3 and will remain closed through Monday, April 7—drivers must use eastbound Sample then south on Michigan Street to Indiana Avenue—and the lane will reopen by the end of Monday if weather permits. - ➤ Governor Braun activated the Indiana National Guard to help with storm recovery after severe weather and tornados damaged 41 counties. The Guard will work with local leaders to assess the damage and plan next steps. WSBT
- ➤ Governor Mike Braun activated the Indiana National Guard to assist with storm recovery efforts after severe weather affected at least 41 counties—Guardsmen from units in Jasper, Vincennes, and Seymour will work on recovery operations while other units remain on standby. ABC 57
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Beacon Health System signed a definitive agreement to acquire Ascension’s network of four hospitals, 35 outpatient clinics and an ambulatory surgery center in southwest Michigan — a deal expected to close this summer pending regulatory approvals. The move will expand its residency program — supported by more favorable Medicaid reimbursement rates. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Beacon Health System announced it signed a deal to buy Ascension Healthcare (subject to standard regulatory approvals) in southwest Michigan. The deal will close this summer and give Beacon four hospitals, 35 outpatient clinics and an ambulatory surgery center (including the 422-bed Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo). ABC 57
