- ➤ The South Bend Firefighters Memorial honoring eight fallen firefighters is being reassembled at Seitz Park today when firefighters will install the final wrought iron pieces at 2 p.m.—a symbol of sacrifice, service, and community. The memorial, originally dedicated in 2004 and built by local firefighters with support from labor unions and businesses, was stored during the Notre Dame hydroelectric project. ABC 57

- ➤ The Garage Arcade Bar in South Bend said on social media that it will soon close after nearly five years on East Colfax Avenue as it starts a new chapter and will host an EDM Night this weekend with its final open weekend on April 26. WSBT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Administrators at Washington and Riley High Schools in South Bend learned through Snapchat of a shooting threat for Wednesday and notified families on Tuesday while following safety protocols—officials said the FBI is investigating and the threat was not believed credible. ABC 57
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Bend Public Transportation Corporation and the Interurban Trolley will launch redesigned bus networks on June 2 following a nearly two-year CONNECT Transit Plan + the updated routes will improve connections across Mishawaka, South Bend, and Elkhart while featuring new stop signs and QR codes for route details. - ➤ Union Township approved a $1 million bond to fund new equipment and EMT staffing at the Lakeville—Union Township Fire Department because leaders worry that property tax cuts from Gov. Braun might lower funds for emergency services. Officials had rejected a $2 million bond for a new ambulance and will continue to rely on South Bend’s 10-minute response time. WSBT

- ➤ Kennedy Urlacher, a reserve safety for Notre Dame football, will enter the transfer portal after a season of limited play. He said in an April 4 interview that he needs more opportunities to get reps. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ The Indianapolis Colts are investing in girls' flag football to expand the sport statewide, planning to bring 100 schools into the league. Local schools (St. Joe, Riley, Washington and Adams) have already joined as the team prepares for a fall season with startup costs covered by the owner’s family. ABC 57
- ➤ Steve Reynolds and his three oldest daughters will join the University of Texas at Arlington women’s basketball program next season; Reynolds is expected to serve as an assistant coach while his daughters play for the Mavericks.
