  • Mike Golic Sr. will host the 5th annual SubPar Classic on Friday, April 24 at Warren Golf Course as part of Notre Dame's Legacy Weekend (featuring Notre Dame legends, celebrity guests, and a tailgate ahead of a men’s lacrosse game on Saturday) to support local charities.  WNDU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Radio station Sabor Latino moved from the Mary Crest Building to its new space inside PBS Michiana (WNIT station) in South Bend on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, with a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the relocation.  South Bend Tribune
  • A community choir will perform movie music on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre at the Moreau Center for the Arts at Saint Mary’s College, featuring songs from The Greatest Showman, La La Land and Disney classics (donations will be collected on a pay-what-you-can basis).  WNDU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Bend Community School Corporation’s board laid the groundwork for major policy updates during Wednesday night’s public work session — including measures for clearer school performance, enhanced accountability, and stronger cybersecurity. The board expects the first official reading by early May.  WNDU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Unity Gardens will host an Earth Day celebration Saturday in South Bend with workshops (Native Seed Bomb at 9 a.m., award presentation at noon) and additional sessions (Spring Foraging Walk at 11 a.m. and History Tour with Mitch Yaciw at 1 p.m.), while Krispy Kreme and Franky's Tacos serve treats.  WNDU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Bend Fire is nearly finished installing a new alert system — the HAAS safety alert system — that alerts drivers through infotainment centers and warns fire trucks when close to each other to reduce collisions. The technology is on 29 vehicles and will be fully installed by next month.  WSBT
  • On Thursday, Apr. 16, Gov. Mike Braun’s proposal passed the State Budget Committee to add $200 million to Indiana’s childcare voucher program, which will enroll 14,000 more low-income children while 20,000 remain on the waitlist; families can apply online through Early Ed Connect.  South Bend Tribune

  • After defeating Jimtown, Goshen baseball clinched its first IHSAA 4A sectional title since 2008 and reached its first semi-state since 1981 — with key contributions from Colton Rapp and Braxton Cline.  South Bend Tribune
  • Two local basketball stars, Nick Shrewsberry and Brady Scholl, have been chosen for the Indiana All-Stars team, which will play the Kentucky All-Stars on June 5 at Lexington Catholic High School + return on June 6 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame’s football secondary is building elite skills under first-year coach Aaron Henry as talented players from Irvington (Adon Shuler), Fort Wayne (Tae Johnson), Texas (Leonard Moore) and St. Louis (Christian Gray) prepare for a competitive fall season in South Bend.  South Bend Tribune
  • Bethel University introduced David Osborn as its new head men's basketball coach on April 16 in Mishawaka — the former Indiana Wesleyan assistant and Homestead High graduate plans to recruit local talent to boost the Pilots’ performance.  South Bend Tribune
  • Ethan Roberts, a graduate transfer from Penn, committed Thursday afternoon to join Notre Dame basketball for next season. Raised near the program and a lifelong fan, he said playing for his dream school marks a once in a lifetime opportunity.  South Bend Tribune
  • Today, the South Bend Tribune polled 35 former Notre Dame players, coaches, and staff, collecting 149 votes to rank the top teammates over the past 30 years (Steve Vasturia led the list, reflecting the strong bonds that defined the program).  South Bend Tribune
