- ➤ A person was injured in an overnight shooting on South Bend’s south side when police responded at 1:15 a.m. on Monday to a shot spotter notification and found the victim on Dubail Street—the victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition as the Violent Crimes unit investigates. WSBT

- ➤ Notre Dame students designed a new rescue robot called Sprout that uses flexible material to search for survivors in collapsed rubble—teams are field testing it in partnership with MIT. The robot currently reaches 10 feet and researchers plan to extend its reach to 25 feet before it is ready for commercial use. WSBT
- ➤ University of Notre Dame released a statement saying its community mourns the loss of Pope Francis, whose ministry inspired respect for every human's dignity. President Rev. - ➤ The South Bend Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Growth announced Walnut Road is fully closed between Lincoln Highway and Edison Road until May 2 for NIPSCO-related repairs—crews will work Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Motorists are advised to follow detour signs and exercise caution near the work zone.
