- ➤ South Bend Mayor James Mueller and council members gathered Wednesday morning at the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Grant Street to honor former SBCSC Superintendent Samuel Diggins Sr.—two additional street signs were installed at Delaware and Indiana Streets. Diggins, who spent 17 years in education before his long ministry, is remembered for his leadership in both public service and business. ABC 57
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend is hosting Zoo Luminate from March 19th to May 25 as it features hundreds of LED displays of animals and plants shown from 6 to 10 p.m. on Wednesdays through Sundays at 500 S. Greenlawn Ave and the zoo has signed a three-year contract with Tianyu Arts & Culture to grow attendance even when the weather is uncooperative. South Bend Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ South Bend Community School Corporation is launching the third year of its Student Officiating Program to train students in grades 10 to 12 to work as youth sports referees as officials become scarce amid referee abuse concerns. Licensed IHSAA official Andy Kern leads the program, which has grown to nearly 20 participants (training begins with an online course followed by hands-on experiences that can lead to part-time income) and aims to secure the future of local sports officiating.
