  • Residents near a Mishawaka warehouse fire on McKinley Avenue reported charred debris blowing into their yards and voiced concerns about air quality and potential lithium battery hazards — cleanup will not begin until end of next week as the investigation continues.  WNDU

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Shirt 2026 unveiling took place Friday, Apr. 24 on Notre Dame campus at 4:30 p.m. on the Library Lawn + if rain occurred it was moved indoors; student groups performed and the shirt became available for purchase.  WSBT

  • NorthWood High School senior Ella Balasa was named South Bend Tribune Student of the Week on April 20 for her academic excellence, leadership on the basketball team, and service through National Honor Society. Nominees from Mishawaka and Adams High will be announced Monday.  South Bend Tribune

  • Former Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields was picked by the New York Giants in the third round (74 overall) of the NFL Draft on Friday, April 24. He becomes Notre Dame's highest-drafted transfer.  South Bend Tribune
  • Former Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book will debut as a broadcaster for the Blue-Gold Game on Peacock later this weekend while weighing his NFL future — former NFL star Steve Beuerlein lends his support to guide Book’s next move.  South Bend Tribune
  • The New England Patriots selected Notre Dame standout Eli Raridon in the third round of the NFL Draft on Friday, April 24. The 6-foot-6 rookie, who overcame knee injuries during his college career, was picked 95th overall (adding momentum to his professional journey).  South Bend Tribune
  • Former Notre Dame star Jeremiyah Love was drafted third overall on April 23 in Pittsburgh, becoming the highest-paid rookie running back and set to join the Arizona Cardinals. He credited his college lessons for building his work ethic as he begins his NFL career.  South Bend Tribune
  • After leading Indiana to its first national championship, quarterback Fernando Mendoza was selected as the No. 1 NFL pick by the Raiders on Thursday night.   • Notre Dame will host the Blue-Gold Game today at 2 p.m. as its first scrimmage of the season—tickets cost $10 and the game streams live on Peacock.  WSBT
