COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Eddie, a 7-month-old stray puppy, is now at the South Bend Animal Resource Center and searching for his forever home. He is neutered and current on his shots (ready for adoption) and gets along well with people and other pets.  WSBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • High school students from the Gears Youth Robotics Center built a winning robot in a small Osceola workshop and will take it to the world championship in Houston—testing their skills against top teams.  WNDU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Severe storms are expected to develop today as a cold front arrives later—showers will start around 3 p.m. with damaging winds and an isolated tornado possible near 10 or 11 p.m. and a warm high near the low 70s.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Faith leaders from We Make Indiana met at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday to urge city officials to fine landlords with unsafe housing. They said families lacking heat, water, or elevator service deserve safe conditions — and they plan to meet officials again within 60 days.  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Sunday, April 26, Mental Health Awareness of Michiana hosted Cake in the Park in South Bend — a friendly competition where locals tasted and voted for cakes while raising funds for mental health support initiatives.  WSBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame football sent two players to the NFL on Day 3 of the draft. Offensive guard Billy Schrauth went to the Buccaneers in the fifth round and defensive tackle Gabriel Rubio (who missed much of his final season after an elbow injury) joined the Steelers in the sixth round.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame football offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock praised returning starter quarterback CJ Carr for his strong command of the offense, noting that his leadership could boost the team's readiness for the upcoming season.  South Bend Tribune
  • Voting is now open for the South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week poll featuring 26 nominees from 22 schools and six sports. Votes are accepted until Thursday, Apr. 30 (11:59 p.m. ET).  South Bend Tribune
