- ➤ South Bend’s May First Fridays event, themed Pedals + Petals, will include a bike parade, decorating contest, plant sale and live music during a block party on the 100 block of South Michigan Street. The event is set for May 1 from 5 to 9 p.m. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Residents can enjoy a week of local events from film screenings at South Bend venues to Derby Day parties in Mishawaka to guided architectural tours on May 1 (tickets required) scheduled from April 27-May 3 for family fun and cultural enrichment. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Residents in Elkhart, Kosciusko, Marshall and St. Joseph counties can log bike trips from May 4 to May 31 for weekly prizes including South Shore Line tickets and a chance to win a new Trek e-bike. The challenge, hosted by Crossway Trails, is free when joining via the GO574 app. WNDU
- ➤ Residents can help prevent identity theft by taking part in a drive-through shredding event at the St. Joseph County 4-H Fairgrounds on May 2 from 8 a.m. to noon (a $20 minimum donation supports Crime Stoppers) even if it rains. South Bend Tribune

- ➤ Gurley Leep Automotive broke ground on a 70-acre multipurpose automotive development in Granger yesterday and plans to build ten buildings for dealerships, operations, and amenities that support its growth strategy. WNDU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Bend announced it will pave more than 50 streets this summer—from today through mid-November—with each street expected to take 3 to 5 days to complete; drivers should plan for delays and detours during the work. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Lane restrictions are in effect on Lincolnway East in Mishawaka since Monday night as crews perform concrete work and right-of-way restorations between Cedar and Laurel Streets. The work will conclude at 5 p.m. Friday and drivers should plan alternate routes for safety. WNDU
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ South Bend Fire Department warns residents to avoid plugging extension cords into one another and connecting space heaters to multi-outlet setups after several fires this past week. The department advises plugging devices directly into wall outlets and keeping appliances three feet away from flammable items — safety guidance. WNDU
