Good morning, South Bend. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 2nd of May.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • YMCA members at downtown South Bend will have to wait to use the pool as leaks found during final checks delayed its opening. The pool will reopen in June after specialized contractors complete repairs — ensuring the facility is safe for use.  WSBT
  • South Bend residents will soon have access to new affordable duplexes built by Inner City Development with help from community groups and the city—each duplex offers two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and space for two families—and officials say the project is part of a broader effort to revitalize local neighborhoods.  WSBT
  • Two South Bend churches, St. Casimir and St. Adalbert, will consolidate into one parish to unite finances, strengthen ties, and reduce administrative work. Pastor Ryan Pietrocarlo said mass schedules remain unchanged and the consolidation becomes official July 1—signed by Bishop Rhoades.  WSBT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Morgan Weatherholt, a Concord senior and Indiana Tech softball commit, was in a bad car crash when her car went off the road after a group of deer came on Beech Road in St. Joseph County.
