CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Reontre Lawrence, a 26-year-old from South Bend, was sentenced to 80 years in prison after he was found guilty of fatally shooting 20-year-old Amarion Kirk and 22-year-old Jasani Taylor outside Quality Inn on Lincoln Way West — he was arrested in Indianapolis nearly two weeks later. WSBT

- ➤ Fifty first responders in St. Joseph County completed crisis intervention training at a ceremony at the South Bend Police Department. The program taught them how to handle calls involving mental illness, substance abuse and behavioral issues—diverting individuals to treatment rather than the justice system. ABC 57
- ➤ A traffic alert on South Bend's south side on Friday morning caused major delays as phase 3 of the Ireland and Ironwood intersection project began—workers closed the center lanes on Ironwood Drive and stopped all left turns. Traffic on Ireland did not cross the intersection—part of a six-phase improvement project set to finish by early July. WSBT
