COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local American Legion posts host community meals featuring burgers, fried fish and breakfast combos across Galien, Mishawaka, and South Bend from May 21 to 24 (menu costs vary). Food trucks will serve cuisines in Buchanan on June 1 and at Ball Band Biergarten in Mishawaka on June 5.  South Bend Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • South Bend hosts a busy week of live music from May 18 to 24. Colin Cutler will perform at Sound Bend Records on May 19 while the Raclin Murphy Museum and The Morris hold concerts on May 21 and 23 (ticket details onsite) and Four Winds Casino schedules bar events.  South Bend Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tonight, Operation Education: Empty Desks, Uncertain Futures will host a 30-minute town hall on WSBT 22 at 5:30 p.m. to examine rising chronic absenteeism and local efforts by schools and county prosecutors to bring students back to class.  WSBT
  • Notre Dame held its 181st commencement ceremony Sunday, May 17 at Notre Dame Stadium, where civil engineering major Martin Soros gave the valedictory address + Sister Raffaella Petrini delivered a featured speech.  South Bend Tribune
  • Penn High School held its prom at Century Center on Saturday, May 16. Students danced and took photos while The Bluewater Kings played live music for a spirited evening.  South Bend Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, resurfacing and drainage upgrades start on State Road 933, limiting traffic to one lane in each direction between SR 331 + Ash Road and set to last through November. Drivers should expect lane shifts along the route during the project.  WSBT

  • Halsey, the longest resident at South Bend Animal Resource Center, has been waiting since December for a forever home after being taken in by police as a stray. Prospective adopters can apply now to give her a new start.  WSBT

  • Notre Dame baseball renewed its hope by bashing eight home runs at Pitt and will face Clemson on Tuesday, May 19 at Truist Field in Charlotte — a rematch following their March home series sweep.  South Bend Tribune
