  • Veterans and volunteers placed 700 memorial flags on gravestones at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park to honor those who served our country—an annual event organized by Homes for Heroes—and the veteran owned real estate company helps veterans and first responders buy homes.   • Today in Granger at CrossFit 061, 85 participants will complete the Murph Challenge to honor fallen heroes while South Bend will host its 99th annual West Side Memorial Day Parade on Monday down Ford Street, ending with ceremonies at VFW Post 9820—reminding everyone to honor those who died in service.  ABC 57
  • Kerry Newhouse has lived in the Karl King Tower for three years and continues to face issues with bedbugs and black mold in his unit—concerns shared by his caregiver and the South Bend Tenants Association.   • At the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend, fans celebrated racing history ahead of the Indy 500 by viewing the number 34 Studebaker Special that finished 7th in the 1993 race—every car from 7th through 12th in the 1933 race was a Studebaker.  ABC 57

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Bill Flavin, a former Notre Dame walk-on turned sports neurologist, has reached out to the family of his late teammate Taylor Dever as the virtual Race to End CTE continues to support research and help those affected by the disease—Dever’s brain donation revealed he had Stage 2 CTE. The race will conclude May 30 and aims to raise $600,000 by encouraging donors to walk, run, bike or swim—providing crucial funds for the Concussion Legacy Foundation.  South Bend Tribune
