- ➤ South Bend’s oldest structure, the Navarre Cabin, enters a new phase as the History Museum calls on the community to help fund plans for an immersive 1800s experience — the museum launched a crowdfunding drive to raise $50,000 by July 13. The project will transform the cabin area into a historic village and is set to complete Phase One by summer 2026 — local residents are invited to learn more at a talk on June 4. ABC 57
- ➤ The Potawatomi Zoo announced that on June 11 it will host a free admission event for children 14 and under when accompanied by an adult, with the event running from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.—keeper chats and sponsor giveaways will add to the day. ABC 57
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Donated vintage Aircoupe planes arrived in Elkhart to support STAY Indiana’s aviation training program—high school students will restore and fly the aircraft to learn mechanics and pilot skills. Tom's Towing moved a rare pre‑WWII plane from Michigan to the Mishawaka Pilots Club, and the program will expand to Goshen Airport this summer to offer local teens more career opportunities. WSBT
- ➤ Covenant Christian School is expanding its program by adding a Christian high school for grades 9—12 that will start this fall. School officials have begun hiring teachers and planning a curriculum to enroll at least 50 students, including many current 8th graders who plan to stay on. WSBT

- ➤ South Bend Mayor James Mueller spoke with WSBT's Bob Montgomery on May 28 about next steps for the New Day Intake Center and plans for Kennedy Park's new pool — he explained the city will review both projects before moving ahead. WSBT

- ➤ Digestive Research Alliance of Michiana will host a free Liver Health Open House on June 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Michiana Endoscopy Center—attendees will get a no-cost FibroScan screening that takes 15 minutes, a BMI check, and information on liver health along with giveaways and a raffle. - ➤ In a historic Class 3A sectional final played May 28 in Plymouth, John Glenn High School softball beat South Bend Saint Joseph 8-5 at Centennial Park; the Falcons, who had only won two sectional games ever before, will host a one-game regional final on June 3 against either Tippecanoe Valley or Columbia City.
