COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local authorities have assigned safety plans for Silver Beach County Park in St. Joseph, with two deputies set to improve visitor security according to WSJM radio. The efforts are designed to protect the park for the community.  WSBT
  • Local officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony for South Bend's new tennis courts, which are now ready for public use. Community leaders expect the facility to offer fresh recreational opportunities for local residents.  WSBT
  • The Food Bank of Northern Indiana will run mobile pantries from June 4 to June 26, offering boxed and bagged food in a drive-through (first-served) at sites in South Bend, Elkhart, Argos, Goshen, Mentone, Knox, San Pierre, and LaPorte.  South Bend Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • South Bend’s Gene’s Camera owners Jon Gilchrist and Melaney Miller will present 'The Long Exposure: Photography History and a Community Camera Store' at The History Museum’s Insights in History event, 1:30 p.m. June 3. They will explore photography’s evolution and the store’s past (reservations by June 1; $3 admission).  South Bend Tribune
  • South Bend Lyric Opera marks its 10th anniversary with Puccini's La Bohème performed at IUSB Campus Auditorium. The opera runs May 29-30 and June 5-6 at 7:30 p.m.+ Tickets are $50 for general admission and $20 for students featuring singers from Indiana and beyond.  South Bend Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mishawaka and Byrkit Avenues were closed yesterday for sewer and utility work; the Byrkit closure covers the Club Boulevard area and Mishawaka Avenue from Byrkit to State Street, with Cedar Street as a detour until Aug. 11.  WSBT

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • City officials updated on Thursday that construction is underway on the Madison Lifestyle District just south of Memorial Hospital. The project — part of a $330 million downtown investment — will add new apartments, a hotel, commercial space and a parking garage set to begin in the first half of 2027.  WSBT
