COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ WNDU anchor Joshua Short was honored along with 39 other young professionals at the 20th annual Michiana Forty under 40 Recognition Luncheon on Friday, May 29 at the Lerner Theatre. The event, organized by the South Bend Regional Chamber and YPN South Bend, celebrated local community contributions. WNDU
- ➤ On June 13, Alzheimer's and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana will host its 36th annual Stand by Me Walk at Howard Park + registration opens at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 a.m., and funds will support local caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s or dementia. WNDU
- ➤ Family Fun Fest returned to Howard Park as Mental Health Awareness month ended, turning the park into a hub for family connection and mental wellness. The event featured free activities like balloon twisting and face painting, showcased resources from 40 organizations, and encouraged open conversations. WSBT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Dave Wood and the Youth Council near completion of the year-long Shoe City project that will install 15 fiberglass sneaker statues around Mishawaka. The art trail — highlighting the city’s historic ties to shoe production — will soon launch with a website featuring a QR code on each statue. WSBT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three graduates—Leo, Aquarian, and Romello—were honored at Memorial Hospital’s auditorium in South Bend last Friday as part of ADEC’s Project SEARCH program that helps young adults with disabilities learn job skills. Family members and community leaders attended the event. WSBT
- ➤ Good Shepherd Montessori announced that its historic bell tower will be partially demolished to address structural concerns from weather exposure. The project will start in June and be completed before school resumes, and the school is inviting community ideas on how to honor the bell. WNDU
- ➤ A program from Build Forward SB opened a home on East Haney Street built by local high school students. The selected homeowner will move in soon & students will start the next project when school resumes. WSBT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local farmers in St. Joseph County have voiced concerns over the proposed Midwest Continental Divide trail system — the plan set by Senate Bill 468 passed in 2025 may cross farms and spread chemicals. They plan to present their issues at upcoming county council and redevelopment meetings. WSBT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ South Bend Medical Foundation is asking for O-negative blood donations to support local hospitals + donors can visit centers on Douglas Road, Ireland Road, or in Goshen to donate. WNDU
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Baylor Miller, Ricky Rutland, Alonzo Newbern, Will Elick, and Leon Fowler won the IHSAA boys track and field regional championships in South Bend, showing strong teamwork in a local high school sports event. South Bend Tribune
