COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Deacon Barnes and Deacon Monnin were ordained today at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in South Bend after completing seminary training and being baptized there — their ordination marks a new step in serving as priests who perform church sacraments.  ABC 57
  • Local law enforcement officials and community members gathered today at Palmer Funeral Home to honor Sheriff Bruno, the St. Joseph County Police comfort dog who served since 2019 and eased tension at local events. The live-streamed service featured remarks by his handler, Sheriff William Redman, and celebrated his legacy after a cancer diagnosis (which led to his passing).  WSBT

CRIME NEWS

  • South Bend Police investigated a homicide that occurred on Saturday on the south side of the city — officers responded to a shooting at the 500 block of Wagner Street where they found a female victim with a fatal gunshot wound and are asking anyone with information to come forward.  ABC 57
  • South Bend police responded to a shooting near Southeast Neighborhood Park after St. Joseph County Dispatch received a call just before 8 p.m.—officials are working to determine if there are any victims and what caused the incident.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • The new South Bend: Then and Now, Part IV exhibition opened Friday at the Studebaker Museum and will run until August 3—its historic photos from the 1920s to 1970s are paired with current images taken by Matt Cashore Photography. The exhibit features images sourced from the museum archives and highlights local institutions like Studebaker Corporation and South Bend Bait Company.  ABC 57

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Bend Community School Corp will launch Summer Discovery Kitchen to provide free breakfast and lunch for children and teens under 18 from June 9 through Aug 1. Meals will be served at schools and community sites, and themed activities are planned on select dates—offering music, games and food samples.  South Bend Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • South Bend Washington junior Adriana Swanson won the state title in the 100-meter hurdles on June 7 at North Central High School in Indianapolis with a personal best time of 13.83 seconds. She joins her father Adrian as a state champion and said she will celebrate with donuts (strawberry ones with sprinkles).  South Bend Tribune
  • The South Bend Cubs host Cancer Awareness Night at a game where players wear special purple and white jerseys that fans bid on to add the name of a cancer survivor or someone who lost their battle on the back of the jerseys—all proceeds benefit Beacon Health System for cancer research and treatment as jersey winners join the team on the field for the National Anthem.  WSBT
  • A list ranks the top 25 Notre Dame basketball games from 2000 to 2025 and shows key moments from overtime wins and big comebacks—each game marks an important achievement for the Irish.
