- ➤ Volunteers prepared 800 pounds of strawberries for the 31st annual Shortcakes on the Blacktop event held Friday at St. James Cathedral—2,700 shortcakes were offered until 5 p.m. to benefit St. Margaret's House women's shelter, Dismas House and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. - ➤ This weekend, Michiana hosts several events as the 37th Elkhart Jazz Festival plays downtown Elkhart with live music, food, and cooling stations—while in South Bend, NIFC will host an international friendly soccer match with Atlas FC U‑23 on Sunday at 4:00 a.m. at Luis Manta Stadium following a meet and greet Saturday at 3 p.m. at Fiesta Tapatia. - ➤ Officers responded to a shots fired call at 3:37 a.m. Friday at the intersection of East Grove and Locust Streets and found shell casings outside 615 Locust St. where the house was struck several times—no injuries were reported as police processed the area as an active crime scene. ABC 57
- ➤ South Bend police are investigating a shooting just south of downtown on Indiana Avenue just west of Lafayette Boulevard after a man was shot in the arm just before 5 a.m. Friday. WSBT

- ➤ Summer starts today in South Bend as rising heat and humidity push the heat index to triple digits this weekend and may keep conditions dangerous into early next week.
