- ➤ The ABC57 First Warning Neighborhood Weather Team accepted the IBA Cardinal Award today for its Project Tornado severe weather education program that aired in May—an honor recognizing TV and radio stations statewide for community service work—affirming its commitment to local public safety. - ➤ UFCW Local 700 said Kroger will close its South Bend store (4526 W. Western Ave.) and its Elkhart store (901 Johnson St.) in early August as part of a national plan to shut 60 locations. Local leaders worry the closures will deepen food access issues on the West Side while union talks over employee reassignments get underway. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ UPS announced that the Bourbon distribution center will close today—earlier than the initially planned June 30 closure as workers had been told. The change is part of the company’s largest network reconfiguration to move employees to other facilities while keeping its pickup and delivery service reliable. WSBT
- ➤ SpartanNash, which owns local grocer Martin's, announced on Monday it had signed a merger agreement with C&S Wholesale Grocers, agreeing on a deal worth roughly $1.77 billion & receiving unanimous board support. - ➤ Police stopped several smuggling attempts into state prisons by using drones to detect suspects and intercept contraband during incidents at Westville and Michigan City. Arrests were made and charges ranged from drug trafficking to resisting law enforcement — investigators recovered drugs, cell phones, remote controls and other items. South Bend Tribune

- ➤ The South Bend School Board voted in a 3 to 3 tie to keep Library Board President Ruth Warren on the board. The board is checking if the December appointment by Dr. Stuart Greene followed school board rules—another vote may occur if the matter is brought back for debate. WSBT
- ➤ South Bend Common Council approved tax abatements for two projects. The measures include a $14-million affordable apartment building with 50 units planned near Rally’s on South Main Street at the corner of Donald and South Main Streets — and a tax break for demolishing the old Studebaker Manufacturing Facility on West Chippewa to allow redevelopment. - ➤ The USPS will host a program at the South Bend Main Post Office at 424 S. Michigan St at 9 a.m. on June 30 to raise dog bite awareness, noting past incidents have led to over 6,000 employee injuries nationwide—trainer Hector Hernandez will lead a demonstration for safe mail delivery practices.
