  • Multiple cities around here will host Independence Day celebrations over the weekend with fireworks, parades, and family events scheduled from June 27 through July 5. Dowagiac will hold its 12th annual display on June 27 (rain date June 28), while Mishawaka, South Bend, and other nearby communities offer events with concerts, movies, and sports activities.  WSBT

  • The History Museum in South Bend will host 'Insights in History' with National Women's Baseball Hall of Famer Carol Sheldon on July 2 at 1:30 p.m.—she will talk about the All American Girls Professional Baseball League, the South Bend Blue Sox, and the life of Betsy 'Sockum' Jochum followed by a Q&A and a special tour of the exhibit.  ABC 57

  • A heat wave that began on June 21 is linked to climate change as it kept nighttime lows above 70 and may be more common in future summers—experts say temperatures will drop into the 60s only next Tuesday.  ABC 57

  • Indiana Attorney General Rokita and the state BMV warned Hoosiers about scam texts and emails using a fake Indiana DMV identity—recipients should not click on links or share personal details and must report suspicious messages to block them.  ABC 57

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Bend residents are advised to set their air conditioners to 78°F when they wake up to save energy and stay safe during summer heat, based on Energy Star guidelines. The EPA recommends raising the thermostat by 4°F during sleep and by 7°F when away — steps that can help lower monthly bills.  South Bend Tribune
