- ➤ This week, South Bend and nearby Mishawaka will host a series of community meals starting with the downtown Wine Walk on July 9 from 5 to 9 p.m.—which offers paired bites, wine samples, and a souvenir tasting glass—and continuing with burger nights, fish fries, food truck dinners and spaghetti suppers scheduled at local venues through July 18. - ➤ The South Bend Police Department announced its Kid’s Patch Coloring Contest returns this summer and invites children 18 and under to design an official police shoulder patch with submissions due by July 24 at 11:59 p.m. The contest will feature a vote on the SBPD Facebook page starting July 28, and the winning design—set to become an embroidered patch and displayed at National Night Out on Aug. 5—will earn its artist a personal police tour. - ➤ Jones Family of Companies announced plans to open an 80000 square foot facility expansion in South Bend to boost production capacity for high-performance nonwoven materials used in mattresses, furniture, automotive parts and packaging. - ➤ Police say 30-year-old Angelina Valente (from Mishawaka) drove drunk just before 5:20 a.m. on County Road 20 and hit an oncoming car, badly injuring a 55-year-old man who is now in hospital, and she was arrested on charges for causing serious injury and possession of marijuana. WSBT

- ➤ IU professors in South Bend and across the state have warned that a new law requiring minimum graduation numbers will force changes in more than 400 degree programs, with 5 programs eliminated, 220 consolidated and 2 taught out locally—faculty say these cuts may hurt low-income and rural students and weaken public higher education while Governor Braun supports aligning programs with student demand and workforce needs. - ➤ On Monday, beachgoers were told to avoid swimming at Washington Park Beach as high waves and strong rip currents made the water dangerous. Lifeguards warned that the rough surf can pull swimmers away — a risk that has led to several drownings on Lake Michigan this year. WSBT

- ➤ Judge John Broden recused himself from the immigration-related lawsuit brought by Attorney General Todd Rokita against St. Joseph County Police Department, citing a potential conflict of interest. The parties have until July 10 to agree on a special judge—if they do not, one will be randomly appointed by the court clerk. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Crews began repaving State Road 2 on Monday, closing the eastbound ramps at the Bypass and planning to close the westbound ramps today until the project ends on Friday. Drivers are advised to avoid these access points while construction continues. WSBT
