COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, cyclists traveled from Merrillville to South Bend, ending the night in Mishawaka as they approach the halfway mark of a 13-day, 1000-mile ride that began in Plainfield. Tim Reiter of Notre Dame Police has ridden in the event since 2003 to honor families of officers killed in the line of duty—three officers from Mishawaka died during his term.  ABC 57

CRIME NEWS

  • South Bend Police arrested 41-year-old Gabriel Williams and 41-year-old Vallonia Smith on July 3 after a traffic stop led officers to search a Canterbury Drive home where they found six long guns, four handguns, suspected marijuana, synthetic marijuana, methamphetamine, amphetamine and chemicals for producing synthetic marijuana — both face hearings on Aug. 6.  ABC 57
  • Visual Capitalist reported that the Hyundai Elantra was the most stolen car in Indiana last year with 475 cases reported plus nearly 32,000 thefts in 21 states, and car owners are urged to use anti-theft devices to help protect their vehicles.  South Bend Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 1951 Studebaker Commander — known as the Muppet Car from The Muppet Movie — will return to the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend on Saturday after an 18‑month restoration by Razorfly Studios funded by private donors. The car will be introduced at the Concours d’Elegance at Copshaholm with adult admission at $11.  WSBT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mishawaka’s geese population dropped from over 100 to fewer than 30 after the city relocated the birds on June 27th and 29th to a fish and wildlife area in Huntington—residents noted cleaner parks yet some worry the birds might return next season.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Traffic on Navarre Street near Memorial Hospital will be one-way westbound from July 14 to July 18 due to parking lot construction—residents and emergency vehicles will use Main Street off Marion Street to reach the emergency room until work is complete.  ABC 57
  • ABC57's Brian Conybeare interviewed Indiana Gov. Mike Braun today in South Bend to discuss issues such as property taxes, education, healthcare, and DEI—focusing on key areas of state policy.  ABC 57

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Thistleberry Farm will host its final flower picking and photo-op events on July 12-13, offering visitors a summer display of sunflowers, zinnias, and lavender along with homemade props & a play arena for kids as the season ends. The family-owned farm on Mayflower and Kern Road will end U-pick tomorrow & hold reserved photo shoots Saturday and Sunday.  WSBT
