- ➤ South Bend Police said the Grandview Avenue crossing was closed Friday evening after a freight train hit an unoccupied vehicle while the driver waited for a tow—no injuries were reported and officials expect it to reopen in a few hours with the Meade Street crossing remaining open. ABC 57
- ➤ South Bend Police and Fire responded to a fallen tree that injured two people at the 600 Block of W. Washington Street — officials asked the public to avoid the area as the investigation continues. ABC 57

- ➤ Amazon is hiring more than 1,000 full-time workers for its new 800-thousand square foot fulfillment center in Elkhart — offering starting wages over $19 an hour with benefits. The center will open in fall and is expected to boost local job opportunities. WSBT

- ➤ A man died and his wife was injured when a tree toppled in the 600 block of W. Washington Street around 8:00 p.m. Friday night—South Bend Police and Fire Departments responded. WSBT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Health officials confirmed that mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus have been found in Clay Township and the county is treating stagnant water—using larvicides to reduce mosquito breeding. Officials urge homeowners to clean gutters and remove standing water as mosquito testing is expected to continue for the remainder of summer until the first frost. WSBT
