- ➤ A popular South Bend restaurant that was known as Oaken Bucket is reopening as Bucket Shack as new owners renovate the space to offer a family dining atmosphere—its concept differs from their Food Shack—and aim to open in about a month. Renovation work includes updating decor and finalizing a menu with much-loved favorites while the business is hiring staff. WSBT
- ➤ Amazon is building an $11 billion data center near New Carlisle to cool computers that power online apps — the project will create around 1,000 jobs and support advanced AI training for both Amazon and other customers. WSBT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Bend officials discussed a proposal to charge residents up to $150 for police camera footage during a Personnel & Finance Committee meeting on July 14. Black Lives Matter South Bend said the fee would hurt low-income residents (and urged the council to make police footage widely available) during the reviews. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ State Road 4 was reduced to one lane between CR 925 E and CR 1000 East for a bridge deck overlay preventative maintenance project that began Monday and is expected to last through mid-September—temporary traffic signals were installed to direct traffic. WSBT
- ➤ ABC57 is investigating trash dumping and code violations on South Bend’s west side — former councilmember and county surveyor Derek Dieter showed spots with expired license plates and vehicles parked on yards near Vassar Avenue and Wilber Street. Neighbors say the neglect harms the area’s image — urging the city to increase investments and use 311 for reporting issues. ABC 57
- ➤ Michigan Street between Haney and Dubail in South Bend closed Monday for water main work, and drivers were directed to detour on Calvert + Sample Streets through Main Street. The street will reopen Friday. WSBT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Memorial Hospital has a new traffic pattern that detours vehicles headed to the emergency room from the normal entrance at the northwest corner—drivers now use Main Street off Marion Street. Navarre will be one way during a construction project for a new parking lot at the former South Bend Medical Foundation site, which is expected to finish Friday. WSBT

- ➤ South Bend’s baseball team marked ten years since its name change by ranking the top 10 players who shined since 2015 — the list shows key stats for pitchers, hitters and fielders and excludes rehabilitation assignments.
