- ➤ Two suspects were charged in connection with the June 7 shooting death of Kristina Ortiz in South Bend + officials provided an update on the investigation. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ St. Joseph County Surveyor Derek Dieter reported a burglary occurred at the Portage Township office near the St. Joe River by Monroe and Lincolnway East on Friday around 6:30 a.m. when a 48-inch TV was stolen and photos show a suspect in a red hoodie with dark pants—anyone recognizing him should call Dieter at 574-532-2200. - ➤ South Bend Schools made small gains in ILEARN scores after a post-pandemic drop, though local students still fall below state averages — district leaders say they will use the improvements to boost learning when school starts on August 20. ABC 57

- ➤ A bumpy railroad crossing on Anderson Road east of Cherry Road in Granger has caused worry among local drivers and neighbors because rough tracks are damaging cars, and County Councilman Dan Schaetzle (currently on vacation in Montreal) has raised the issue with Canadian National. Canadian National says the crossing will be fixed by the end of the year (residents report bent wheels and blown tires) as locals urge safer travel. WSBT

- ➤ The St. Joseph County Health Department sprayed parts of South Bend on Thursday as a preventative measure against West Nile Virus, treating areas in southeast, eastern, and central parts of the city—after spraying parts of Penn Township on Tuesday. ABC 57

- ➤ Thousands of fans are expected this weekend for five youth sports events — including baseball tournaments at Notre Dame and Bethel, a Little League qualifier, a lacrosse tournament with eight teams from six states, and a baton twirling championship at Notre Dame.
