  • The 41st Annual Culver Lake Festival returned this morning—kicking off a 3-day celebration with a parade that featured fireworks over Lake Max, a car show, a free throw contest, bands, food, and entertainment. The event, founded in 1984 by the Economic Development Commission and led by Roy Shepered, boosts local economic activity by drawing many visitors.  ABC 57
  • Last Saturday, a charity hockey game at Compton Family Ice Arena saw Pucks for Autism face Detroit Red Wings Alumni to raise over $40,000 for Camp Millhouse programs that support children with disabilities — the event also included a vendor market and sports card and Pokémon trade show.  WSBT
  • The Botany Shop on Portage Avenue in South Bend held its 4th annual Plant Pride event Saturday afternoon with more than 20 local makers and vendors taking part despite the rain. The shop will host additional events later this year— including a maker market series next month.  ABC 57

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • South Bend Police responded to a serious motorcycle crash on Michigan Street just south of Ireland Road that blocked northbound traffic and diverted vehicles eastbound to the bypass — the northbound ramp to Michigan and southbound traffic near Ireland Road remain blocked as the investigation continues.  ABC 57

CRIME NEWS

  • On Saturday, a free exhibit at the Grand LV Kull State Room in Niles shared details about two cold cases, including the 50-year-old disappearance of Janis Kay Sanders and the case of Janeice Langs from South Bend. The event was hosted by Cold No More — supported by Michigan State Police and the Western Michigan Cold Case Program — to raise public awareness about these unsolved cases.  WSBT
