CRIME NEWS

  • At 11:45 a.m. Thursday morning near S.R. 4 and Millet Road, St. Joseph County Police—assisted by Lakeville Police and K9 units from multiple departments—responded to a call about a suspicious man seen pacing outside a home on the 27000 block and trying to enter a black vehicle with a woman before fleeing, and officers later apprehended him with no ongoing public threat.  ABC 57
  • South Bend Police launched an investigation after a deadly shooting occurred Saturday morning in the 3900 block of Sheridan Plaza south of the airport, where responders found a man with fatal gunshot wounds — his identity remains withheld pending family notification.  WSBT

  • The What's Up Westside Legislative review was held Saturday morning at the MLK.Jr Community Center in South Bend — community leaders explained upcoming 2025 legislative changes and potential healthcare budget cuts that could affect OB care and specialty services.  ABC 57
  • Dozens of St. Joseph County residents gathered in protest outside St. Mary's and Holy Cross campuses on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. as part of the nationwide Save Our Families initiative, holding a nonviolent die-in with homemade tombstones — organizers said federal policy changes could cut Medicaid and SNAP benefits.  WSBT
  • St. Joseph County Police honored officer Harold Troutner, a 92-year-old who passed away peacefully Saturday and was the first to work with a K-9 partner, by recreating an iconic photo with current officers. His funeral is set for 11 a.m. on July 29 at Palmer Funeral Home (military graveside services will follow at Highland Cemetery).  WSBT
