- ➤ South Bend has opened applications for this year’s IGNITE Grant Program that gives a $15,000 grant to support neighborhood improvements. Twyckenham Hills, which benefited from last year’s grant, plans to apply for projects like adding sidewalks and street lighting—applications close September 26. WSBT
- ➤ The New Prairie community hosted a dinner fundraiser for Lucas Bradshaw, a baseball player injured in a school bus crash in May, with pulled pork donated by a local farmer and a $15 suggested donation — all funds will support his family while he slowly recovers from his coma. WSBT
- ➤ Mia is about 6 years old and has been at the South Bend Animal Resource Center for three weeks. She quickly learns commands like sit, stay, shake and speak—and is already potty trained, gets along with dogs, cats and kids, and awaits a loving home. WSBT

- ➤ A man died after being hit by an Amtrak train early Sunday morning at the crossing near Michigan and Bronson Streets in South Bend—Norfolk Southern Police are investigating the incident. WSBT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ South Bend Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert at 2:40 a.m. on July 27 at the 1500 block of Main Street and took two people with gunshot wounds to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries—investigators are working on the case. ABC 57
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Multiple concerts will take place in the South Bend area and nearby towns from July 28 to Aug. 3—featuring styles from blues and rock to folk and country. Many events will be free or have a low fee, and attendees are advised to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy outdoor performances. South Bend Tribune
