- ➤ Firefighters responded on Sunday to a window AC unit that burst into flames at the West Bend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on West Washington Street in South Bend—although the sprinkler system contained the flames, the rec room suffered water damage. ABC 57

- ➤ On July 24 near North Liberty, police chased Brent Ottman—a white male with several tattoos—after his Ford Fusion with false plates sped away and later a black Chevy Cruze led to a felony stop; he ran on foot three times before officers caught him and now faces charges including resisting law enforcement and drug-related offenses. - ➤ South Bend has launched its fifth Build the Budget process for the 2026 season to gather resident input through an online survey, 311 voicemails, and interactive games at community events.
