ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A semi-truck tipped over Friday night on the Indiana Toll Road near mile marker 50 just northeast of the South Bend airport, shutting down west-bound lanes—police received calls shortly after 9:00 p.m. and no injuries were reported.  WSBT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • South Shore Line will offer free rides for grandparents when they travel with a grandchild from Aug. 10 through Aug. 16—grandchildren must have a valid ticket or be eligible under the Kids Ride Free Program. The promotion gives families a chance to spend quality time together on board while exploring different destinations along the route.  ABC 57

CULTURE NEWS

  • At The History Museum, Christina Tembo—chief marketing officer for LOGAN—will share details about the nonprofit’s 75 years of work with people with disabilities and its green Nose On efforts during a talk as part of the Insights in History series on Aug 6th at 1:30 p.m.—an exhibit at the museum will also highlight LOGAN’s contributions.  South Bend Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana State Police K-9 Zoia and her handler Brett Adair explained that working dogs live with their handlers, receive over three months of training to detect drugs and track suspects, and serve for about six years. The department is hosting a fundraiser to build a new training and medical care center—an effort that will give K-9 units updated facilities.  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Minority Health Coalition hosted its annual health fair and back-to-school event at the Tolson Center on Saturday, offering free health screenings—vision exams, lead testing, blood pressure checks, and glucose screenings—for children and adults along with immunizations and free backpacks while supplies lasted.  WSBT

  • Notre Dame football began fall training camp in South Bend with three days of mild weather, but coach Marcus Freeman said players must form a solid hydration routine ahead of Miami’s 90-degree opener—where last season’s Texas A&M win shows how endurance in heat can be a game changer.  South Bend Tribune
  • The 14th annual Four Winds Golf Invitational is held at South Bend Country Club from August 1 until today—professional golfers compete for a chance to join the LPGA tour and win a $250k purse. The event raises funds for Beacon Health Children’s Hospital—supporting the Angels Eyes NICU 2 Home program to help families bring babies home.  ABC 57
  • Kedren Young, a redshirt freshman running back for Notre Dame, weighed 240 pounds and scored a touchdown against Navy in 2024 while honing his strength and speed in practice. His coach said his improved frame and balanced diet help raise the team's performance—preparing him to take on a larger role in 2025.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame coach Ja’Juan Seider said on Aug. 2 that running back Jeremiyah Love has been learning to read defenses as the team plans to shift away from its heavy reliance on quarterback Riley Leonard in short-yardage plays, and coach Mike Denbrock may use Love in wildcat formations & create more matchup options in the tackle box. This change could add versatility to the offense in upcoming games.  South Bend Tribune
