- ➤ The South Bend Chapter Indiana Black Expo will host its annual Back to School Backpack Drive-Thru Rally on Aug. 9 at the Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, offering free backpacks, school supplies and parent resource bags from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.—fun activities like tug of war, Double Dutch, face painting and snacks will follow from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. while the City of South Bend Linden Avenue Farmer’s Market operates at the MLK Dream Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ABC 57
- ➤ From today until August 10, local venues host concerts that range from blues and folk to rock and metal. In South Bend, Don Savoie will perform at Seitz Park on August 8 — the Osceola Music Festival runs from August 8 to 10 at Fern Hunsberger Park. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Last Sunday Robinson Community Learning Center hosted a senior prom at Morris Inn Ballroom where over 50 seniors aged 65 and up enjoyed food made with diabetes friendly ingredients, a photo booth, and dancing—Morris Inn Executive Chef Calvin Metts along with South Bend and Notre Dame police were present—and a king and queen were crowned. - ➤ South Bend is hosting a series of community meals through Aug. 10 as part of Summer Restaurant Weeks, with local venues offering specials for brunch, dinner and late-night bites. The events include a burger night on Aug. 7 at Galien American Legion Post 344, a fish fry on Aug. 8, a wine walk downtown on Aug. 13 and a corn and sausage roast on Aug. 16 with advance tickets available. - ➤ Kimarie Wright was sentenced to 10 years behind bars today after a jury found her guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Kaylynn Davidson in downtown South Bend in May 2022—Davidson was the mother of 5-year-old Kyler Jackson. ABC 57
