The Centre Branch of St. Joseph County Public Library in South Bend will reopen ahead of schedule on Sept.

2 after a $1.5 million renovation that added new study rooms, fresh paint, carpets and energy-efficient lighting—it also featured an outdoor Story Garden. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow on Sept. 9 from 4 to 6 p.m.

On Saturday night, two benches were stolen from Paddy Shack, a family-owned ice cream shop in Granger—staff discovered the benches missing during cleaning on Sunday and owner Michelle Padrnos said she hopes they will be returned with no questions asked.

The local district announced that students at Olive Elementary can now leave class to attend Bible lessons off campus after LifeWise volunteers provided background check results similar to district employee standards—this voluntary program update addresses earlier concerns about proper screening.
