- ➤ The Centre Branch of St. Joseph County Public Library in South Bend will reopen ahead of schedule on Sept. 2 after a $1.5 million renovation that added new study rooms, fresh paint, carpets and energy-efficient lighting—it also featured an outdoor Story Garden. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow on Sept. 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. ABC 57

- ➤ On Saturday night, two benches were stolen from Paddy Shack, a family-owned ice cream shop in Granger—staff discovered the benches missing during cleaning on Sunday and owner Michelle Padrnos said she hopes they will be returned with no questions asked. WSBT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The local district announced that students at Olive Elementary can now leave class to attend Bible lessons off campus after LifeWise volunteers provided background check results similar to district employee standards—this voluntary program update addresses earlier concerns about proper screening. - ➤ The South Bend West Exit 72 toll plaza is closed overnight from August 4 to August 23 for lane safety improvements—crews shut it at 7 p.m. and reopen it at 5 a.m. The Elkhart East Exit 96 will close in September for similar work. WSBT
- ➤ Fire crews at South Bend International Airport are performing live burn training from 8 a.m. until noon Tuesday through Thursday—flights remain unaffected. WSBT
