- ➤ Family-friendly events took place on Aug. 11 and will continue in the South Bend area through Aug. 17. The week features classic car cruise-ins, outdoor movies at Howard Park, a touch-a-truck event at local museums, and various fairs and art markets in nearby communities (including Mishawaka, Nappanee, Elkhart and St. Joseph). - ➤ A variety of concerts are scheduled for the week of August 11—17 with shows at local venues such as the South Bend Public Library and events in Buchanan, Bridgman, and other nearby areas. - ➤ Former business leader and philanthropist Frank Schurz died in his sleep Sunday at 94. He ran the family firm that founded the South Bend Tribune + WSBT stations and retired to Montana, with his name on local charities + education projects. WSBT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A man suffered gunshot wounds in a shooting near the bar My Place at Keller Park and remains in serious condition at the hospital after police responded at about 3 a.m. on August 10 — no arrests have been made as the investigation continues. South Bend Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On August 15, South Bend offered St. Joseph County a chance for a new city-county governmental center on a 30.8-acre site opposite Howard Park by selecting it over 10 other locations. City and county leaders hoped the project would replace outdated buildings with modern facilities. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Today the South Bend Common Council passed a bill that raises fees for police camera footage from $15 to up to $75 per video+ the council also cut redaction fees for body and dash cam footage from $50 to $25 per hour with the new fees set as a one-year test that goes into effect January 1. WSBT
- ➤ Judge Julie Verheye on Monday declined her appointment as special judge in AG Todd Rokita’s sanctuary city lawsuit against the St. Joseph County Police Department because she wanted to avoid any perceived conflict—now the clerk must appoint a fifth special judge. ABC 57

- ➤ South Bend Cubs fans will watch games this season on WMYS—My Michiana and CW25 as part of an 11th season-long partnership with Weigel Broadcasting.
