- ➤ City stakeholders including the South Bend Housing Authority showed residents early plans for the Western Avenue Transformation District project that will add 208 new mixed income housing units and retail on a block with the former Rabbi Shulman apartment building and demolished Monroe Circle housing. Residents asked questions during the meeting—city leaders said the project will help solve the affordable housing crisis as part of the Downtown 2045 Plan. ABC 57

- ➤ United Airlines will add two more flights from South Bend International to O’Hare this fall. Daily flights will rise to seven on September 2 and eight on October 1—tickets are available now. WSBT

- ➤ Officers responded to the boat launch—located at the dead end on Vistula and Beech Roads in Osceola—around 5:30 a.m. Saturday after a black Chrysler 200 crashed into the St. Joseph River, and the driver was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI, Minor Consuming an Alcoholic Beverage, and Operator Never Licensed. - ➤ Yesterday, parents dropped off their children at Twin Branch Elementary — in Mishawaka — for the first day of the 2025-26 school year, where hugs, laughs, and tears were shared. Principal Bob O'Hara warmly greeted students as they began the new school year. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ South Bend School Corporation is boosting incentives for bus drivers and paraprofessionals to fight a shortage before the new school year begins. The district will pay returning drivers a $1,000 bonus and offer new paraprofessionals a $2,000 signing bonus plus a $2,500 retention stipend—aiming to staff 127 bus routes and serve over 400 special needs children while addressing 16 unstaffed routes.
